There are actually several places I find sales estimates for the past and present. One of those is news sites is The Tokusatsu Network: http://tokusatsunetwork.com/. It was from them that I learned the Kamen Rider series is currently the #2 franchise Bandai owns the merchandising rights to behind the juggernaut that is the Gundam brand.
Which shows the sales figures for each of the major franchises Bandai controls. For the purposes of this English language chart, Super Sentai is labelled as Power Rangers. You can see that the sales for Full fiscal year of 2014 (which counts the sales for Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger) were pretty good and dipped for Ressha Sentai ToQger and then fell again for Shuriken Sentai Ninninger. This shows that while Ninninger was trying a formerly successful theme, it didn’t click with the modern audience.
Of course, none of this happens in a vacuum and toy sales are impacted by outside forces like demographic changes and tragedies. That’s why I also like to read Japanese news sites like Japan Today https://japantoday.com/. Yesterday they published an article showing that the number of children in Japan has fallen for the 36th year to the lowest number since records have been kept. https://japantoday.com/category/national/no.-of-children-in-japan-falls-for-36th-year-to-new-record-low. With fewer children to buy toys, today’s sales are going to markedly lower than historical sales from just 20 or 30 years ago.
reblogging this in memory of everyones favorite air hump dance. RIP space hips of fury, it was beautiful while it lasted
For those wondering what is going on, Toei got slammed by a powerful parental /grandparental advocacy group who threatened them after seeing their children imitating the hip thrust movement of the Kyuranger dance. It was removed after a certain period and is no longer part of the dance in the end credits.
Needless to say, this is the same reaction grouchy boring people had when Elvis swayed his hips back in the 50s. Sometimes companies should ignore outrage when it is this trivial.
Anonymous asked: Just a PSA: One should never use ZSNES. In addition to being inaccurate as all hell, it's possible for a hacked ROM to execute windows code through the emulator, letting it do all sorts of nasty shit.
